If you wish to get a new instrument, you will need to decide if you are going to rent or purchase the instrument from a local music store or make the purchase online.
Renting from a local music store is easy, but you’ll usually pay full retail price for the instrument and when your talking about something that costs around $1000 or more, that is a substantial difference. While rental plans from local music stores usually include a service plan, trumpets shouldn’t need much in the way of service as long as they are taken care of and when they do need repairs, they are usually fairly cheap.
In addition, local music stores usually will offer to take the beginning instrument as a trade-in when you wish to move up to a higher-level instrument, but again, you’ll be making the trade-in against the full retail price of the new instrument.
In my opinion, you are much better off buying the instrument. If you want to trade in the beginning instrument later, you still can, but you’ll get more for it if you sell it to someone else at that time.
You have many options online, but Musician’s Friend has the best deals I’ve seen anywhere. They are actually the company that sets the price standard for the rest. You won’t be sorry for using them. From Musician’s Friend you can expect to pay somewhere around 40% less than most music stores, depending on the individual instrument. Click the link below for more information.
